Washi Tape Easter Eggs

We haven’t yet decorated eggs for Easter. We might do it before the weekend as my daughter is off from school Thursday and Friday.  She is very excited to paint and decorate eggs. Yesterday she bought some colored powder and stickers for the eggs but it had to wait!  Anyway, here’s a very easy way to jazz up your eggs which doesn’t require water, coloring, cooking, and all that.  If you’ve got a washi tape, hurray!

What you’ll need:

washi tape

eggs

pair of scissors

*I used plastic eggs just for visual purposes. 

What to do:

You can actually do anything you like, in whatever way you want to cut your washi.  I made X, triangles & square shapes.  I also placed the washi around the egg. Get creative!  Do it your own way!

When you’re done cutting your different shapes, stick it to the eggs and you’ve got a decorated Easter eggs!

Paper Gems

I won’t take credit for this one. I only followed the instructions from Mini Eco which you can find here.

What you’ll need:
A4 paper
A pair of scissors
Ruler
Glue
Thread

I thought it would be easy to make but it was a challenge to glue the flaps together!  Lots of cutting and patience are needed in this project but very rewarding.  My kids really liked them, and instead of my initial plan to hang these gems as a decor, they ended up as toys for my kids.  They played pirates and hunted the gems. (:

This other one was used a pendant by my daughter. Cool, eh?

 

Christmas wreath

Deck your house this season with your very own Christmas wreath.

What you’ll need:

 

styrofoam wreath ring

yarn

christmas balls, red ribbon, poinsettia flowers, or any christmas decors will do

glue & glue gun

a pair of scissors

What to do:

1. Wrap the styrofoam ring with yarn, totally covering it.  Secure with glue at the ends.

2. Stick your christmas decors around the ring, however you like it.

3. Make a big bow, place it on top of the ring and also tie a yarn for hanging.

Hang by the door to greet your visitors or on the wall for an added Christmas touch to your house.

I adorned mine with pine leaves, snowflakes, pine cones and ribbons.

 

 

Memory wire bracelet

Memory wire bracelets to complete your look!

If you’re fond of wearing accessories especially bangles or bracelets, you don’t have to break the bank! It is actually easy to make one for yourself. Proof of that is the bead wire bracelet tutorial that I shared here before.

But I’ve got another easy-to-make bracelet that even young kids can manage to do. My five year old daughter made one on her own with very little supervision! It kept her occupied for a long time. Her work is the colorful teddy bear + alphabet bead combo you see in the top photo. The other one was made by me using amethyst stones. If she did it, you can do it too! No doubt about it!

You will only need three things to make a funky, colorful, classy or any kind of bracelet you want. Let’s get started!

What you’ll need:
any kind of beads
pre-cut memory wire ( I had three loops. The more loops you use, the thicker your bracelet will be and the longer the time it will take to make it.)
pliers

I guess by looking at the picture below, you can already figure out how it’s done.

What to do:

But anyway, here it goes in case you prefer words than picture:
1. Create a loop towards the inside at one end of the memory wire using the pliers.
2. String the beads until you reach the other end of the memory wire. Make a loop again to secure the bracelet.

That was quick and easy, right? If you string pearls, you would end up with a classy bracelet. All it takes is a little creativity and patience. And you bet, it is an awesome craft activity to do with girl friends or kids! It is also a great gift to make and give to friends; it is handmade which makes it an extra special piece.

So, go ahead, grab some beads from the craft store and make your own memory wire bracelet!

The school where my daughter goes to had an auction to raise funds for the school. They required the kids to bring handmade stuff to be auctioned off, made together by parents and the children. We chose this activity and the whole family had a blast making it! (:

Paper birds

Tweet, tweet! Don’t you love the sound of the birds welcoming Spring?

Well, here’s a belated post for Spring! Let’s make some paper birds!

What you’ll need:

used papers
colorful magazine pages
glue
pair of scissors
googly eyes or black marker pen for the eyes
masking tape

What to do:


1. Crumple the papers to form into a shape of a bird.
2. Use masking tape to make forming easy.
3. Take sheets of the magazines and tear them lengthwise. These will be used as feathers.
4. Place glue and stick the torn magazines all over the body, add googly eyes on the head, or use the black marker pen to draw eyes. Cut a triangle shape from the magazines for the bird’s beak and glue it on (as shown in the final picture below).

Your buddy is ready to hop and chirp in your garden!

Bunny Piñata

We order home delivery pizza quite often (at least twice in a month!) especially when I’m lazy or got no time to cook.  I can’t bring myself to throw away the pizza boxes without using or abusing them first. Since Easter was just around the corner, I thought I’d make a bunny piñata out of it for our Easter celebration with the kids.

What you’ll need:
pizza box (or any box would do)
crepe papers
black colored paper
pink colored paper
white colored paper
glue scissors
tape
strings/yarn

What to do:
1. Draw a bunny on the pizza box.  There are many templates in the internet which you can print out. I don’t have a printer so I just eyeballed the template I chose and draw it freehand.

2. Cut the bunny shape (make 2 for two sides).

3. Cut a few 1 inch width strips of the box for the sides of the bunny.

4. Put together the two sides of the bunny shape using a tape with the 1 inch strip in the middle. Don’t forget to leave a small hole on top where you can drop your treats/piñata fillers inside.

My daughter couldn’t resist giving the bare piece of box a face! 🙂

5. Cut about about 1 inch strips of crepe paper and make a fringe.

6. Cover the the bunny with the crepe fringe, from the bottom going up. Don’t include the ears!
7. For the ears, glue the same color of crepe fringe all around (2 times), choose a different crepe paper color (hot pink for me) for the middle part (also 2 times).
8. For the inner ear, I cut out a pink colored paper and glued it in place.
9. The last part is the face. Using a template or simply eyeball it, cut out the eyes, whiskers, nose, etc. and glue it on the proper place.
10. Tie a string or yarn, and hang it for the kids to hit! (Yay!)

Have you seen a yellow bunny yet? Now you do!

The yellow crepe paper was the only available color I have that’s enough to cover our bunny. (:

Crepe Paper Carrots

Easter fever is in the house! My daughter has been asking me if she can paint eggs and she and her lil’ bro have taken out their Easter baskets and filled it with chocolate eggs which they recently grabbed while we went grocery shopping. They’ve also been playing with the bunnies they bought from Ikea last weekend. So I thought this project from Martha Stewart (which I tweaked a little with the use of paper) would be perfect for the Easter and the kids’ craft/play time!

Here’s a quick and easy craft, crepe paper carrots for you all!

What you’ll need:
crumpled paper

green crepe paper, cut like so:

orange crepe paper, cut about 2 inches wide.

glue
scissors

What to do:

1. Wrap the green crepe paper on top of the crumpled paper.

2. Cover the rest of the paper with orange crepe paper, secure in place with glue.

3. And you’ve got a carrot! Looks crunchy!

Then let the bunnies have a carrot party!

It can be used as Easter decor, filled with small treats or simply let the kids play with it!

DIY Felt Flower 1

I ordered 50 sheets of felt one sleepless night, each in different colors and for the past weeks, I’ve been sitting in felt heaven. Oh I love using felt in crafting and it has been a good material for creating embellishments! From flowers, to cake banners, making kids’ toys, tee-shirt appliques, etc. etc. For now, let’s tackle how to make felt flowers, one of the many variations you can do.

What you’ll need:

felt
glue gun
thread & needle
pair of scissors

What to do:

1. Cut felt into 6 same sizes of flower pieces and 1 smaller one. You can get the flower template here: http://rubberstamping.about.com/od/shapetemplates/ss/flower_template.htm.

2. Fold the each flower into a quarter and sew into another piece which will serve as the base.

3. Continue attaching the remaining 3 pieces to cover the base by sewing (or you can also use hot glue).

4. Take the last of the same sized flower, put glue in the middle and fold it into half. Then put glue again and fold to make it into a quarter. Dab glue and put in the center top.

5. Get the last small flower and repeat step 4.

And your pretty flower is ready for use!

DIY Felt Lollipop

I am working on a project for my little girl’s birthday and I wanted to adorn it with all the things she love.  She loves sweets!  Candies, cupcakes, lollipops, chocolates, ice cream, you name it!  The first thing that popped in my mind was lollipop coz we bought packs of it earlier that day.  So yezzz! Lollipop it is!  A felt lollipop tutorial is coming your way.

What you’ll need:


2 pieces –  felt of different colors
needle & thread
glue gun
stick
ribbon

What to do:

1. Cut the felt into 1/4 inches wide x 17 inches long strips.

2. Sew together the felt strips using running stitch.

3. Roll the felt to form into a circle; dabbing glue as you roll along.

4. Attach the stick at one side of the circle with a glue gun; like so:

5. Glue the felt circle to hide the top part of the stick.

6. Flip to the front side and attach the bow where the circle and stick meet and that’s it!

Offer to your kids this sugar-free lollipop to play with!

I made one for each of my kids and they just wanted more!  They sure are keeping their mama busy!

 

Hair Clip Display Board

If you don’t know how to organize your ever-growing number of hair clips, then let me come to the rescue.  Let’s make an easy DIY hair clip display board! I made one for a bazaar back in May to display my hair clips which came out pretty nice.  


What you’ll need:

cork board (I got mine from Ikea)
fabric (from Ikea too)
thumb tacks
1 inch ribbon (printed or plain)
pair of scissors


Ooops! The ribbon isn’t in the picture!

What to do:

1. Measure the size of the cork board and add about 1.5 inches all around. That will be the size of your fabric.
2. Cut fabric (measurement refer to #1).
3. Put the fabric over the cork board, fold the fabric to the back (double fold the edges to avoid fraying) and secure with thumb tacks every 3 inches or so.
